This Department was established in 1975 as “Department of Hifzane Sehat”. It was renamed in 2006 by CCIM, New Delhi as “Department of Tahaffuzi wa Samaji Tib” with the objective of developing skilled and motivated public health professionals. The department of Tahaffuzi wa Samaji Tibb covers the teaching in preventive and social medicine as Tahaffuzi in Arabic means Preventive and Samaji means Social. This department also covers the teaching of Medical Jurisprudence and toxicology. Besides the regular and routine teaching and training work, the department of Tahaffuzi wa Samaji Tibb is always remained actively associated with certain Community Health Activities.
The department imparts health education at the Under graduate covering the subjects as per NCISM Syllabus as Concept of health & disease, natural history of disease, Nutrition, Epidemiology, Multidimensional aspects of Pollutions, Environmental Studies including Waste management, Communicable & Non-Communicable diseases, Demography, Maternal Health, Family Planning, Neonatal Care and Geriatrics, Disaster management, Mental health, Importance of Ilaj bit tadbeer as preventive measure like Dalak (Massage), Riyazat (exercises) & Hammam (Bathing) etc. The department also imparts education of Tibbe Qanoon wa llmus Samoom (Forensic Medicine & Toxicology). This discipline provides the knowledge on the subject of Forensic Anthropology, Forensic Entomology, thanatology, dactylography, modes of deaths, all sorts of injuries, Procedure of Postmortem, elementary knowledge of IPC, CrPC and applied toxicology of certain plant, animal and minerals poisons and their Fatal dose, Fatal period, Postmortem changes, circumstances and management.
MISSION:
The mission of the department is to popularize the Unani System of Medicine by creating awareness and to enhance acceptance of the preventive healthcare aspects of Unani Medicine.
FACILITIES:
The department has Tahaffuzi wa Samaji Tib and Tibbe Qanoon wa Ilmus Sumoom Museum with necessary collection of 3D models and well-defined mounted charts. Department is also maintaining seminar library having reference and textbooks on the subject of Tahaffuzi wa Samaji Tib and Tibbe Qanoon wa Ilmus Sumoom.

The department of Preventive and Social Medicine also referred to as Community Medicine strives towards providing preventive, promotive and curative health services. And also provide high quality training in Community Medicine to the medical students and deliver comprehensive primary health care to the people covered under the field practice area of the institution.
DEPARTMENT OF TIBB E QANOONI –WA- ILMUS SAMOOM
(FORENSIC MEDICINE & TOXICOLOGY)
This department is merged with Tahaffuzi Wa Samaji Tib recently and deals with application of medical knowledge aiding in justice both in civil & criminal cases for the social wellbeing. The department will train the medical professional regarding moral ethical values of medical profession and also in handling all varieties of MLCs, Post Mortem Examination and Toxicology services.
